WINTER TREES
All the complicated details
of the attiring and
the disattiring are completed!
A liquid moon
moves gently among
the long branches.
Thus having prepared their buds
against a sure winter
the wise trees
stand sleeping in the cold.
– William Carlos Willams
Growing up in the LA area, I was never really adept at winter living. It took me six years out of seven to cave to a proper winter coat when I lived in NYC. I moved back to CA for the sunshine but sometimes miss the reflective air and stirring nature of a winter's night that makes me want to curl up to a fire with a good book. I recently got to indulge in this exact sentiment while at Dunton Hot Springs with Electrify Getaways.
Nestled in the San Juan Mountains of the Colorado Rockies, Dunton provided an escape that allowed for disconnection and connection. While there is wifi on property, cell service is spotty in this restored ghost town allowing for immersive experiences that reconnect you to nature and the beauty around you. In between meals served in Dunton's cozy lodge which also houses quite an art collection, Electrify Getaways curated a program that had me snowshoeing, cross country skiing, ice climbing, snowmobiling, and even had me on a magic horse sleigh. After the daily activities, I highly recommend a good soak in the bath house where the natural hot springs will melt away any stresses your body is holding onto.
After a few days in bliss, head to sister property Dunton Town House in Telluride where you will be steps from the gondola to the most stunning views. Perfectly situation in the heart of town, this cozy B&B is decorated with the local immigrant story in mind using a mix of custom furnishings, Tyrolean antiques, imported fabric from Tyrol, and Austrian ceramics.
